COACHES WILL BE CONTACTING PLAYERS STARTING MAY 7th REGARDING TEAM SELECTION
Frequently Asked Questions
AYSO Extra is a soccer program that is geared to those players who
want a higher level
of competition and training but do not want to play Club soccer.
Extra teams will be
formed by several regions in Section 10. The Extra teams will play
against each other
during the Fall soccer season (10 - 14 games) and will have
playoffs at the end of the
season in addition to possible inter-sectional tournaments.
What teams
will be formed?
Region 121 will be looking to form one Extra team for each of the
Boys and Girls in the U10, U11, U12, and U13 divisions. In addition,
we will be forming a Girls U16 team.
The number of teams will be determined by player tryouts and coach
applicants.
Who will
coach the team?
The teams will be coached by a volunteer coach (just like we do for
regular AYSO).
Coach selections will be available on the Region 121 Website
shortly.
Will there
be professional trainers?
Each team will be able to utilize an AYSO approved UK Coach
professional trainer.
What is the
registration fee?
The registration fee will be between $350 and $400 for the Fall
2012 season. The reason that this is higher than regular AYSO is to
cover the cost of trainers along with home and away uniforms.
Fees will be determined before player selection notifications
are made.
How long
will the season last?
The Fall season will begin practicing in August (like we do for the
regular AYSO season)
with regular season running through November. In addition, there
will be a League Cup
in November; the League Cup may be in December if there are weather
delays. There will also
be an inter-sectional tournament which we expect to take place at
the State Championships in March.
What is the
time commitment for practice?
Practices will be twice a week for 90 minutes each.
Will there
be tournaments after the Fall Season?
Yes. Extra teams will be allowed to participate in pre-season
tournaments and AYSO
invitational tournaments which will take place during November
through June. The cost
to enter into each of these tournaments will run $40 to $50 per
player per tournament. In addition, there will be some pre-season
tournaments in August and September which will only be open to Extra
teams. The cost will also run $40 - $50 per player.
How do
players get chosen for the Extra team?
Players who are interested in playing on an Extra team should
attend at least two tryout
sessions. (See information at the top of this
email). Pre-registration is not necessary. Just show up for the
tryouts with the documentation listed above.
The more tryout sessions the player attends, the better opportunity
they have to show
their skills to the selection committee.
The Player Selection Committee will consist of independent members
from our Region. Players who are selected for the team will be
notified per the dates outlined above.
How will a
player register for the team?
Players who are selected for the Extra team will be asked to
register for the Fall 2012 Season and pay the registration fee to
ensure they are committed to the team.
Team commitments and full registration payments must be made
within two weeks of being notified of selection.
How many
players will be on a team?
This will be just like the regular AYSO season, so the number of
players on a team will
be as follows:
U10 - 9 or 10 players
U11 - 12 players
U12 - 12 players U13 through U16 - 14 or 15 players
Will the
Extra program utilize the ¾ play rule?

the team will play at least ¾ of every game. For those players that
habitually miss practice or games, the
